D.Gray-man is a manga (Japanese comic) serialization in
Weekly Shounen Jump. After making its
first public appearance in May 2004, D.Gray-man climbed its way to the industry's bestseller list
in a short course of one year and is now one of WSJ's most celebrated series ever. It was eventually
adapted into several novels and an anime in autumn 2006, all of which are quite well done in my opinion.
I've included a list of topics crucial to Allen's characterization below. You might want to give them a careful read before proceeding to other text-heavy sections of this site. More essays will be added when I find extra time and motivation. Have fun!
A gray era of unknownThe story of D.Gray-man is set in an imaginary 19th Century where two forces existed to either protect or destroy the world, one being the Earl of Millenium and another being Exorcists. While an official member of the latter, Allen Walker is actually a key existence to both parties as we've come to learn. |
Random CuriosityThe creation of D.Gray-man opened a new gate to the future of Shounen genre. Colorful plot, detailed lineart, vivid narratives... there are many instances of D.Gray-man that resemble those of a Shoujo manga, which greatly contributed to its phenomenal popularity among female readers like myself.
